Robert Dempster - Labor Leaflets

Below is an except from an email Donna received from Ann Sweeney, a relative in Scotland.

The full pdf of the scanned pages is here.

Robert Dempster, Don's grandfather, wrote a series of Leaflets titled, The Labour leaflet. I have not found the copies that are mentioned in the emails. If anyone happens to find a way to get copies or access the leaflets, please let me know.

There are also some interesting notes about family member during WWII. One 17 yr old is institutionalized because of battle trauma.

It's a messy read because Donna printed the emails with overlapping content. It is still worth a scan to read more about the Dempster family history.

--Dear Donna,

I think I may have finally found something useful for you! I was searching for something else when I came across this reference, from COPAC (www.copac.ac.uk)

"Title Details: The Labour leaflet/ edited and compiled by Robert Dempster

Publisher: [Scotland]: [s.n.], [1888-1891?]

Physical desc.: [12] leaves; 20 cm

Note: "I am sending you herewith the six copies of the leaflets issued

by Robert Dempster. The dates of issue were somewhere between 1888 and 1891. The only references in publications are in David Lowe's 'Souvenirs of Scottish labour' [Sp Coll Bissett 98] and I have a recollection that Lowe once wrote a note about Dempster in 'The Scottish farm servant'. No-one ever suggested the The Ploughman's Club or the Socialist Union existed except in Dempster's imagination, nor is there any record that

he was a ploughman. The address is rather against him and the style of

the leaflets has no relevance to the farm."--Typewritten note from Dr.

J.F. Duncan, Witch Hill, Newburgh, Aberdeenshire, tipped in

"Issued under the auspices of the Ploughmen's Club and the Socialist Union."
